The Governing Board listened as Bob Flach, chief financial officer; Cathy Rivera, executive director of Educational Services; Dr. Michael Helminski, principal at Kiva Elementary School; and Marsha Sturla, kindergarten teacher at Kiva Elementary School; discussed a K- 3 Override. The K-3 override requires that the Board take action prior to Jan. 17, 2005, in order to have the ballot issue for May 17, 2005. The maximum dollar amount for the K-3 Override is calculated by the average daily membership (ADM) and the K-8 revenue control limit. Five percent of the current revenue control limit is $3,123,619. Research indicates that full-day kindergarten brings improved readiness for long-term student achievement and success. In addition to many academic benefits, all-day kindergarten will boost enrollment and enhance programs for all students, as well as save parents substantial tuition payments under the current structure.
