BOARD BRIEFS |
Dan Shearer, director of Transportation, presented
the Governing Board with a proposal for a full service advertising and
marketing plan to develop and institute revenue-generating advertising
on district school buses. The guidelines for advertising will be submitted
to the Governing Board for discussion at the Nov. 9 Board meeting. The
implementation of the actual advertising plan will be submitted to the
Board at the Nov. 30 meeting.
Kim Lansdowne, coordinator of the Gifted Services, presented
the Governing Board with a State of Gifted Services presentation. The
presentation included state mandates, services provided at SUSD, curriculum
used, testing procedures, staffing and costs.
Katy Cavanagh, academic officer, and Kim Cumby, executive
director of Human Resources, presented the Board with information on teacher
training and teacher retention. The presentation included districtwide
teacher training scheduled for 2004-2005 and teacher separation/retention
information.
In other action, the Board:
- Approved the award of an RFP for musical instruments and equipment
to assure equity in the schools’ band, choral, orchestra, and
general music programs and to continue with the annual replacement program.
These instruments and equipment include instruments in the elementary
schools, plus band and orchestra instruments, including woodwinds, brass,
percussion, and strings in the elementary, middle and high schools.
The amount of the RFP is not to exceed $200,000 for the 2004-2005 fiscal
year.
- Approved the award of an RFP for data technology tools, benchmark,
“DAPS” and formative assessment with curriculum alignment
and mapping to Assessment Technology, Inc. (ATI) for an amount not to
exceed $211,888 for the 2004-2005 fiscal year. This Web-based data warehouse
services addressing Arizona standards-based benchmark/formative assessments
and instructional support are aligned to student achievement results.
- Accepted gifts valued at $57,248. The gifts were received from, Desert
Mountain Band Boosters Mohave Yearbook Club, Anasazi PTO, Cherokee PTA,
Desert Canyon Middle School PTO, Hopi PTA, Kiva PTO, Navajo PTO, Aztec
Community Team, Arcadia Pride, Bartlet Brebner, Dirk Leverant and Safeway.
The next Governing Board meeting is scheduled for 7
p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 5, at the Education Center.
