In addition, Superintendent Dr. John M. Baracy, Dr. Althe Allen, executive director of secondary schools and excelling teaching & learning, Katy Cavanagh, executive director of middle schools and excelling teaching & learning and Dr. Ildi Laczko-Kerr, director of student information management and accountability reporting, presented the Board with an update regarding the developing area growth. Data was collected through community feedback, enrollment projections, financial implications and possible attendance configurations regarding the possibility of a sixth high school. Also, Ernie Nicely, executive director of technology & information systems, presented the Governing Board with the first draft of the new Technology Plan for the district. The presentation focused on a business plan for accomplishing the initiatives identified in the Technology Plan Framework that was presented to the Board on February 8. This presentation contained specifics on estimated costs and timeframes for accomplishing the plan, as well as the process for reviewing, validating and approving the final Technology Plan. Dr. Laczko-Kerr provided the Board with updates on Arizona’s Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) graduation requirement legislation (SB 1038) and the State Board of Education’s timeline for implementation, updates on the new cut scores set by the State Board for AIMS, updates by high school on AIMS results for the class of 2006, update on the AIMS Tutoring program, evaluation, as well as provided the Governing Board members with data that is considered “preliminary and embargoed” until July 13. Also, Bob Flach, chief financial officer, presented the Governing Board with a discussion regarding the shortfall in funds 625 (soft capital) and 610 (CORL) and possible solutions.
