The district will run an advertisement in Sunday, May 29, issue of the Arizona Republic and in a trade magazine for internal auditors. Dr. Baracy will bring the Governing Board a list of the top three candidates no later than July 1.
In addition, Bob Flach, chief financial officer, updated the Board on reissuing the RFP for construction auditor. Mr. Flach and Dr. Bill Johnson, chief of facilities management for learners, will rewrite the RFP to include $5,000 minimum retainer plus an hourly rate. Mr. Flach would like to have the construction auditor hired by June 15.
In other action, the Board:
- Approved the guaranteed maximum price and construction contract to D.L. Withers for summer work at Arcadia High School for the amount of $2,332,388. Construction work is planned for the 2005 summer break, when the campus is largely vacant. The summer work will prepare the site for a timely start of new construction next fall. Construction work for Arcadia included in the contractor’s proposal for the 2005 summer break consists of converting the auxiliary gymnasium into 12 general purpose classrooms, converting the existing Building 600 into temporary space for performing arts, relocating and rerouting mechanical, plumbing, electrical and communications utilities to accommodate construction phasing, replace existing tennis courts, demolish the existing racquetball courts, demolish the existing auditorium building, remove trees on newly required parcel and prepare for temporary parking, prepare building pad for the new media/arts building and establish separation of construction and public areas, including fencing and barriers.
- Approved the guaranteed maximum price and construction contract to Adolfson & Peterson for summer work at Coronado High School for the amount of $985,434. Construction work is planned for the 2005 summer break, when the campus is largely vacant. Also, there are administrators who are covered by the agreement; however, their salary schedule is outside of the Agreement and for that class of staff, the district will be providing a raise equal to 4.7 percent, which includes a 3 percent general raise, plus 1.7 percent for additional state retirement.
