MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING

OF THE GOVERNING BOARD

SCOTTSDALE SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 48

May 15, 2003

A Special Meeting of the Governing Board of the Scottsdale Unified School District, #48, Maricopa County, was called to order at 3:35 PM, at the Scottsdale School District Education Center Board Room, 3811 North 44^th Street, Phoenix, Arizona.

Board Members in attendance were Shari Avianantos, Clerk; Karen Beckvar; and Christine M. Schild. David R. Goldstaub, President, and Sandra Zapien-Ferrero were absent. A quorum was present.

Ms. Beckvar moved to approve the Agenda. Mrs. Schild seconded the motion.

The motion was approved with a vote of 3 – 0.

Consent Agenda Item III. A. Approval of Desert Mountain High School Block Schedule. Mrs. Schild moved to approve the Site-Team’s recommendation not to offer block courses at Desert Mountain High School for 2003-2004 school year, except for those courses that will be necessary to meet the needs of next year’s graduating seniors. Ms. Beckvar seconded the motion.

The motion was approved with a vote of 3 – 0.

Ms. Beckvar moved to convene in Executive Session for:

A. Discussion/consultation with the Board’s designated representatives in order to consider the Board’s position and instruct its representatives regarding negotiations with employee organization(s) regarding the salaries, salary schedules or compensation paid in the form of fringe benefits of its employees and other terms and conditions of employment, so that those representatives can properly represent the Board in upcoming “Meet and Confer” sessions, pursuant to A.R.S. §38-431.03(A)(5).

B. An appeal regarding the Hearing Officer’s Recommendation for Student #102794.

C. An appeal regarding the Hearing Officer’s Recommendation for Student #12103.

Ms. Beckvar seconded the motion.

The motion was approved with a vote of 3 – 0.

At approximately 6 PM, the Special Meeting reconvened and adjourned.
