OF THE SPECIAL MEETING
OF THE GOVERNING BOARD
SCOTTSDALE SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 48

March 20, 2003 A Special
Meeting of the Governing Board of the Scottsdale Unified School District,
#48, Maricopa County, was called to order at approximately 5:00 PM, at the
Scottsdale School District Education Center Board Room, 3811 North 44th
Street, Phoenix, Arizona. Board Members
in attendance David R. Goldstaub, President; Shari Avianantos, Clerk; Karen
Beckvar; and Christine M. Schild.
Sandra Zapien-Ferrero was absent.
Superintendent
Barbara F. Erwin was also present. A
quorum was present. The Board voted
to convene in Executive Session for: A. An
appeal regarding the Hearing Officer’s Recommendation for Student #144657. B. An
appeal regarding the Hearing Officer’s Recommendation for Student #10041. C. An
appeal regarding the Hearing Officer’s Recommendation for Student #125472. D. An
appeal regarding the Hearing Officer’s Recommendation for Student #128450. E. Discussion/consultation
with the Board’s designated representatives in order to consider the Board’s
position and instruct its representatives regarding negotiations with
employee organization(s) regarding the salaries, salary schedules or
compensation paid in the form of fringe benefits of its employees and other
terms and conditions of employment, so that those representatives can
properly represent the Board in upcoming “Meet and Confer” sessions, pursuant
to A.R.S. §38-431.03(A)(5). F. Delegation
of David Renaud Appeal to Hearing Officer pursuant to
A.R.S. §15-541. G. Discussion/consultation
for legal advice with Board Attorneys, pursuant to A.R.S. §38-431.03(A)(3). At 8:35 PM, the Board reconvened the Special Meeting. Mrs. Schild moved that the Board direct their
designated representatives in the Meet & Confer process to proceed
consistent with the discussion and consultation the Board had in Executive
Session this evening regarding salaries, salary schedules or compensation
paid in the form of fringe benefits of District employees. Ms. Beckvar seconded the motion. There was no discussion. The motion was approved with a vote of 4 – 0. Mrs. Schild moved that the Board designate hearing
officer Harold Merkow, or any other hearing officer on whom the parties can
mutually agree, to hold a hearing, hear the evidence, prepare a record, and
issue a recommendation to the Board regarding the statement of charges
pending against, and the continued employment of, David Renaud. Ms. Beckvar seconded the motion. There was no discussion. The motion was approved with a vote of 4 – 0. At 8:42 PM, Mrs. Schild moved to adjourn the Special
Meeting. Ms. Beckvar seconded the
motion. The motion was approved with a vote of 4 – 0. Dated this 20th
