2003-2004 SCHOOL YEAR

Prepared by Bill Johnson, Ed.D., Chief of Facilities and Operations, September 2002

In order to relieve overcrowding and accommodate continued growth in student populations in Scottsdale Unified School District, new school attendance boundaries have been established for Anasazi Elementary, Aztec Elementary, Desert Canyon Middle, Mountainside Middle, Chaparral High, and Saguaro High effective with the start of the 2003-2004 school year. Specifically, the boundary changes are as follows:

High Schools

High school students living within the area bounded by Bell Road on the south, Pima Road on the west, Pinnacle Peak Road on the north, and the 136th Street alignment on the east currently attend Saguaro High School. Starting with incoming freshmen in the fall of 2003, students from this area will attend Chaparral High School. Current high school students from this area will continue at Saguaro. Younger students, concurrently enrolled in high school with their siblings, may also attend Saguaro.

Transportation will be provided from this area to both Chaparral High and Saguaro High during the three-year transition period. In subsequent years, transportation from this area will only be provided to Chaparral High.

Middle Schools

Middle school students living in the triangle shaped area bounded by Shea Boulevard on the south, 104th Street on the west, Sweetwater Avenue on the north, and the Arizona Central Project Canal on the east currently attend Mountainside Middle School. Starting with incoming sixth graders in the fall of 2003, students from this area will attend Desert Canyon Middle School. Current middle school students will continue at their same school. Younger students, concurrently enrolled in middle school with their older siblings, may also attend Mountainside.

Transportation will be provided from this area to both Desert Canyon Middle and Mountainside Middle during the two-year transition period. In subsequent years, transportation from this area will only be provided to Desert Canyon Middle School.

Elementary Schools

Elementary school students living in the area bounded by Shea Boulevard on the south, 104th Street on the west, Sweetwater Avenue on the north, and the Arizona Central Project Canal on the east currently attend Anasazi Elementary School. Starting in the fall of 2003 all elementary students from this area will attend Aztec Elementary School with the exception that students from this area who will be in fifth grade in 2003-2004 (current fourth- graders) will attend their last year at Anasazi. Younger students concurrently enrolled in elementary school with their older fifth grade siblings may also attend Anasazi.

Transportation will be provided from this area to both Anasazi and Aztec during the 2003-2004 school year. In subsequent years, transportation from this area will only be provided to Aztec.
