REALTOR Expo
Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) would like to thank the Scottsdale Area Association of REALTORS® for inviting us to participate in the 2007 REALTOR Expo on July 23rd.

This expo was a great opportunity for the District to connect with both new and experienced real estate agents and provide information about Arizona’s Most Excelling School District. We want to reiterate a few facts about SUSD that we shared with Expo attendees:

SUSD Outperforms the State on AIMS Tests
The Arizona Department of Education recently released the Arizona's Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) results from the 2006-2007 school year.

Once again, Scottsdale Unified School District outperformed the State in all content areas at all grade levels. The District's scores ranged from 7 percent (7th grade writing) to 19 percent (6th grade math) higher than the State's. Additionally, some individual schools scored exceptionally high on the test. At Cheyenne Traditional School, and Cochise and Copper Ridge elementary schools, 100 percent of students in 3rd, 4th and 6th grades met or exceeded the standard in writing. Many of SUSD's campuses had above 90 percent meeting or exceeding the standards in reading, writing and math.

At Pima and Tavan elementary schools, there were increases in performance of as much as 29 to 42 percent in writing.

District trends include a large increase in performance in 3rd and 5th grade writing.

Sierra Vista Academy Dedicates New Buildings

Spirits at Sierra Vista Academy soared on May 17th as an official ceremony to dedicate the completion of Phase II construction was held on campus.

Students and the school's faculty were on hand to celebrate the beginning of a new era at Sierra Vista.

Superintendent Dr. John Baracy, Governing Board members, Principal Rhonda Rickard and project representatives all took part in the dedication ceremony.

In November 2004, voters approved a $217 million bond to improve high schools throughout the Scottsdale Unified School District. Construction at Arcadia and Coronado is almost complete with Chaparral, Desert Mountain and Saguaro currently ongoing.

This Issue's Education Tip: Open Enrollment

Did you know that clients purchasing a home outside of the SUSD boundaries may enroll their child in a Scottsdale Unified School District school? SUSD accepts Open Enrollment applications throughout the year.

Open Enrollment packets are available at all of our 33 schools, on our Web site at http://www.susd.org/district/administrativeservices/openenroll.cfm and in the lobby of the Education Center (SUSD District office located on 44th St. south of Indian School Road).

Once accepted to an SUSD school through the Open Enrollment process, parents will not need to fill out another application for the remainder of their child’s public school career. Parents will need to provide their child's transportation to and from school. There are a limited number of our schools that are not accepting students through the Open Enrollment process because those schools are at full capacity. Please have parents call the school they are interested in to check Open Enrollment availability.
