Read Across America

Scottsdale Unified School District students are honoring a literary legend. Along with The National Education Association, students and teachers are saluting Dr. Seuss as part of Read Across America Week.

In celebration, members of the community visited several classrooms at SUSD schools to read stories to the students. At many elementary schools, students and teachers dressed up as literary characters to get into the spirit. This year marks the 50th anniversary of "The Cat in the Hat."

On February 1st, a group of Coronado High School JAG (Jobs for Arizona's Graduates) students attended the Legislative Day on the lawn of the State Capital. Stage JAG and other JAG programs were there to help promote and educate legislators about JAG and put a face to JAG. Students networked and visited with local dignitaries. Students also had a chance to sit in the House of Representatives Gallery to observe the house in session and were introduced to members. The following Coronado students attended this event: Seniors - Etab Meheretab, Aaron Tena, Olivia Watkins, Taylor Mayo; Juniors - Melina Guerrero, Krizia Canedo, Brandy Jones, Elle Hall, and Jolene Heinrichs. The prevention program educates our young ones on health, nutrition and safety. This event also provides older students a great opportunity to utilize the leadership skills they learn in their Service Learning class.
