Aztec, Cheyenne and Zuni Changes Considered
The consolidation of Aztec and Zuni is being considered due to low student enrollment and to allow for better utilization of school facilities. The consolidation will allow for financial savings in current overhead and administrative costs. The enclosed map identifies the current and proposed boundaries.

The relocation of Cheyenne to the Aztec campus is being considered for better utilization of school facilities. The proposal will allow for future savings in construction bonds. Read more...

FROM THE AZTEC NURSES
There has been a change in Scottsdale Unified School District guidelines regarding the medication that is given out in our school Health Centers.  Previously, the consent to give medication was on the back of your student's emergency card.  It gave our school nurses the option of administering a limited amount of over-the-counter (OTC) medications, (like Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Tums, etc.).  This has changed.

We now need you to complete a Medication Administration Record.  Also, you must provide only the specific, age-appropriate medication (as listed on the medication) and it must be in an original, sealed container before any over-the-counter medication will be given to your child.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you or your student, but this new guidleine is in the best (and safest) interest of all our students.  Please feel free to call the school nurse or to stop by Aztec's Health Center for more information or to provide the proper medication and documentation for your student.

Sincerely,

Kathy Hartmann, RN

Attendance/Tardies – It is not only important for students to be in school, but it is a state law.  It is also important that they learn the value of being to school on time each day.  Parents can drop students off between 7:50-8:10 AM.  Students should be in their classrooms when the 8:15 tardy bell rings.  Please read the SUSD Code of Conduct policy to learn more about how the tardy policy affects elementary students.

How Children Learn Best
Our school began as an effort by educators to create a school truly designed with current brain research on how children learn best, a 21st Century School. Our goal is to produce creative thinkers needed today and tomorrow. Teachers at Aztec are extensively trained in not only the traditional methods but also in Brain Compatible Learning and Highly Effective Teaching through The Center for Effective LearningLifelong Guidelines and Lifeskills serve as the behavior guideline in our classrooms. Our campus was specially designed with lot of open spaces and windows in each classroom to provide natural light. Visit Our Philosophy page to learn more or schedule a tour of the campus today.
Highly Effective Teaching
Aztec Elementary is a school of "Highly Effective Teaching" near the corners of 100th St. and Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd. It is close to the 101 freeway. Aztec has all-day Kindergarten, as well as Pre-K and Panda classes. We are a K-5th grade school!
