Bond Oversight Committee appointed

Superintendent Dr. John M. Baracy has formed a Bond Oversight Committee to ensure that funds from the $217 million bond approved by voters Nov. 2 are spent properly.

The committee is comprised of members of the Scottsdale community with facilities management or financial backgrounds and most members have children attending Scottsdale schools. The members are:

George Adams, facilities manager with General Dynamics
Craig Angell, architect and Tavan Elementary School and Ingleside Middle School parent Craig Curtis, president of Calex Home, Inc. and Kiva Elementary School and Mohave Middle School parent
Virginia Korte, president and CEO of Chamber of Commerce
Tom Kube, executive director of Council Education Facilities & Planning, Inc. and Cheyenne Traditional School parent
Barry Paceley, general contractor and Tavan Elementary School parent
Bob Peirce, CEO of Scottsdale Area Realtors
Dale Rittenhouse, general contractor and Zuni Elementary School parent
Arlen Solocheck, art director for Facilities Planning & Development for Mesa Community College and Sequoya and Chaparral parent
Doreen Song, capital project management for the City of Scottsdale
Alisa Timm, owner of Trust Realty and Cherokee Elementary School, Cocopah Middle School and Chaparral High School parent
Dirk Walter, manager of Design & Construction at Deer Valley Unified School District and a Scottsdale parent.

The $217 million bond will be used to modernize Arcadia, Coronado, Saguaro and Chaparral high schools, make improvements to Desert Mountain High School, begin Phase II construction at Sierra Vista Academy and purchase land and buses.

Design work will begin immediately and construction at Arcadia and Coronado will begin in summer 2005. Watch www.susd.org for updates throughout construction. All construction will be completed by 2009.

The Bond Oversight Committee will report to the superintendent, the public and the Governing Board on how the funds are being spent.
