Scottsdale Unified School District Arizona’s Most Excelling School District!

Dr. David Peterson, assistant superintendent of Operations, presented a master facility plan to the Governing Board. District staff has been working on the SUSD master facility plan during the past year. Every school facility has been assessed and each building system has been inspected. Based upon this work, recommendations for each campus have been developed regarding campus facilities.

The recommendations were then compared with the revised school consolidation work that was led by Dr. Baracy through the Superintendent’s Blue Ribbon Advisory Council. Superintendent Dr. John M. Baracy gave the Board an update regarding the revised plan for facility consolidation. On May 20 at a Special Governing Board meeting at Chaparral High School, the Board directed the Administration to bring to the Board a plan for facility consolidation based on the criteria the Board established on May 20th. In other action, the Governing Board:

• Approved the award of RFP #9156 Superintendent Search Consultant to Hazard Young Attea & Associates Ltd for an amount not to exceed $47,750. The presentation is available on the District’s Web site at: http://www.susd.org/district/govboard/meetings.cfm.
• Discussed the setting of potential Special Meeting dates to comply with A.R.S. §15-341(A)(36) to hold public hearings on possible school consolidations and/or school closings. Those dates are September 24 and November 18.
• Accepted gifts valued at $137,468. The gifts were received from Arcadia PTO, Cocopah APT, Ingleside PTO, Kiva PTO, Coronado Football Boosters, DMHS Wrestling Club, PAC of Arcadia High School, Saguaro Football Boosters, Robert and Elaine Collins, Kiwanis Club of Scottsdale, Rodel Charitable Foundation, Saguaro Publications, Scottsdale Resort & Conference, Wal-Mart Foundation, Wells Fargo Foundation and Wendy’s National Advertising Program.

A Special Meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. on September 24 at the Education Center. The next regular Governing Board meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on October 28 at the Education Center.
