Scottsdale Unified School District Arizona’s Most Excelling School District!

Dr. Ildi Laczko-Kerr and the K-5 Language Arts Committee presented information to the Governing Board regarding the Language Arts Adoption for the 2008-2009 school year. The committee is recommending continuing with the District’s current adopted publishing company – Houghton Mifflin. The presentation is available on the District’s Web site at: www.susd.org/district/govboard/meetings.cfm. The item will be brought back as a Consent Agenda item at the December 18th Board meeting.

Dr. David Peterson, assistant superintendent of operations, presented an expenditure budget update to the Board. The District’s Learning Leadership Team (LLT) has been working diligently to begin the 2008-2009 SUSD budget.

Additionally, Dr. Peterson updated the Governing Board with a facility costs per site report. The Facilities and Business departments have been looking at SUSD’s school operations as part of the comprehensive facility review being performed. The costs associated with each of the District’s school sites were presented along with enrollment data and capacities. The review included utilities, site-based staff, supplies and other operational expenses.

In other action, the Governing Board:

• Approved Dieter Schaefer as the delegate and Karen Beckvar as the alternate to the Arizona School Board Association Delegate Assembly on December 13.
   
• Accepted gifts valued at $93,958. The gifts were received from Anasazi PTO, Hopi PTA, Tavan PTA, Cocopah Yearbook, Mohave Orchestra, Don Chiapetti, Oasis, Scottsdale Chamber Foundation, Scottsdale Charros, Gloria Stein, Target, Roy Tessler, William Tratnack and Wells Fargo Foundation.

The next three regular Governing Board meetings are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on December 18, January 8, 2008 and January 22, 2008 at the Education Center.
