Kim Clark, general counsel, reviewed Open Meeting Laws with the Governing Board. This annual review is held every January. The presentation is available on the District’s Web site at: www.susd.org/district/govboard/meetings.cfm.

Kevin Price, director of audit services, presented the Board a quarterly update that included work completed in the previous quarter and work scheduled for the next quarter. Karen Beckvar, Governing Board president, discussed with the other Board members their expectations for a Facility Master Plan that the Administration will submit to them at a later date.

Superintendent Dr. John M. Baracy presented information to the Governing Board regarding revisions to Policy BEDB-Agenda including the possibility of moving the Consent Agenda before the Information/Discussion items and removing “Recent News and Media Coverage/Potential Board Response. The item will be brought as a Consent Agenda Item on the January 22 agenda.

The Board members also discussed the annual Board calendar, including Board Retreat for District Goal Planning, Board Retreat for Self-evaluation, Board Goals and Board training and Board Retreat for Annual Audit Goals.

In other action, the Governing Board:

• Elected Karen Beckvar as president and Dr. Eric Meyer as clerk for the 2008 year.
   
• Accepted gifts valued at $44,207. The gifts were received from Desert Canyon Elementary PTO, Desert Mountain Stugo, Kiva PTO, Pueblo PTO, CVS Pharmacy, Global Impact, Marcie Gloom, Kroger, Insight Bowl, Meridian Bank, Mr. and Mrs. Erick Mounce, Prudential Foundation, Greg Reid and Target

The next two regular Governing Board meetings are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on January 22 and February 12 at the Education Center.
