A Special Meeting of the Governing Board of the Scottsdale Unified School District, #48, Maricopa County, was called to order at 6:10 PM, at the Scottsdale School District Education Center Board Room, 3811 North 44th Street, Phoenix, Arizona.

Board Members in attendance were Thomas C. Carey, President; Sandra Zapien-Ferrero, Clerk; Shari Avianantos; and David R. Goldstaub. Barbara A. Newby arrived at 6:15 PM. Superintendent Barbara F. Erwin, and Compliance Attorney Jack LaSota were also present. A quorum was present.

Mrs. Zapien-Ferrero moved to convene in Executive Session for:

    1. Discussion/consideration of teacher base level salaries, teacher salaries based on performance, and teacher salary increases pursuant to A.R.S. §15-977, as affected by the enactment of Proposition 301 in 2000, and of amendments to §15-977 in 2001. The Board may also consult on these issues with, and instruct, its designated representatives regarding negotiations with teacher organizations over salaries and salary schedules. This Executive Session would be pursuant to A.R.S. §38-431.03(A)(1) and (5).

Mrs. Avianantos seconded the motion.

The motion was approved with a vote of 4 — 0 (Mrs. Newby had not yet arrived at the meeting).

At 1:30 AM, May 15, 2001, the Special Meeting was reconvened.

Mr. Goldstaub moved that this Board adopt a new salary schedule for 2001-02, spend 40% of Proposition 301 monies on performance pay, and add days to the teacher calendar as follows:

  1. The salary schedule identified as "Option B" and agreed to by the Scottsdale Education Association (SEA) shall be adopted for the 2001-2002 school year.
  2. 40% of Proposition 301 monies will be spent on performance pay, with 85% of that amount allocated to a site-based performance plan to be approved by this Board, and 15% allocated to individual based performance plan to be proposed by three pilot schools and approved by this Board.
  3. 4 non-classroom days will be added to the teacher calendar for professional development.

Mrs. Avianantos seconded the motion.

After statements by Mr. Goldstaub, Mr. Carey, and Mr. Scott Barker, President of the Scottsdale Education Association, President Carey called for the vote.

The motion was approved with a vote of 5 — 0.

At 1:40 AM, May 15, 2001, Mr. Goldstaub moved to adjourn the meeting. Mrs. Zapien-Ferrero seconded the motion.

The motion was approved with a vote of 5 — 0.
