National Board Certification is the highest credential in the teaching profession. It is a voluntary and rigorous performance-based assessment that measures what a teacher knows and is able to do. Teachers who achieve certification are considered highly qualified under the No Child Left Behind Act. Research shows that students of NBCTs, especially young students from lower-income families, benefit greatly and display higher performance on tests.
